Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) Pricing Information
Asian titanium dioxide (TiO2) prices edged down to $2,450-2,650/tonne CFR (cost and freight) Asia in the quarter beginning mid-November as global economic woes took its toll on downstream demand.
The demand slump that began late last year showed few signs of reversal, buyers and sellers said. Volume of enquiries had been thinning considerably while inventory levels among some buyers remained high. As many downstream end-users have yet to resume operations after the Lunar New Year holidays, producers said they will have to wait until March 2009 before the short–term demand outlook becomes clearer.
Some producers have already taken steps to combat the faltering demand volume. Aside from a slew of cost-cutting measures, most producers have already cut operating rates or even shut down their plants completely. One Asian producer said it was still operating at normal rates but conceded that it might have to change course should demand remain sluggish in the coming months.
